On a balmy, tropical Spring day in 1987, two people happened to be shopping in Ambrose’s tiny natural foods store on the island of Kauai. The woman suddenly saw a flash of light out of the corner of her left eye, and turned to look. At the same moment, the man saw a flash of light out of the corner of his eye, and also turned to investigate.     That is how Barry and Karen were brought together in this life.     Since then, they have devoted their lives to helping people awaken to the true, eternal Self.  For many years, this took place through individual sessions in the Chrysalis, a highly coherent energetic space that Barry was guided to design and build.  Within this sacred container, childhood traumas and ancient lifetime issues often arose, and as they were simply allowed, accepted, and turned over to God, profoundly moving resolutions typically occurred.      In the process, the unlimited love, intelligence, and healing power of the True Self were revealed and directly experienced. Many people were propelled into the magnificence of their vastness beyond this dimension, as they found themselves floating in starry realms of light, basking in ethereal colors, sounds, and energetic frequencies. Others were blessed by encounters with angelic presences, ascended masters, the Christ, Mary, and other divine beings.  For many, these sessions were life-changing, as they realized their divinity through palpable, direct experience -- often for the first time.

Through hundreds of these sessions, it became clear that the True Self can -- and does -- contain everything. It embraces the bright light of spiritual heights as well as the “dark light” emanating from the depths of the human experience, from the most horrendous suffering to the most delicious delight, and everything in between.     Barry and Karen have also facilitated many groups to support the process of consciously experiencing, embodying, and living from the True Self.  These gatherings have included guided inner experiences of soul-communion, dyad processes, and group discussion.     In 1998, after years of offering sessions and groups, Karen and Barry were brought into a period of quiet retreat, a time to more deeply embody all that they had learned and experienced spiritually during the past decade. Life relocated them to a remote farm, where their training in grounding has included cutting all their own firewood, repairing and renovating their home, and growing some of their food.      For many summers, Barry and Karen have worked as fire lookouts atop distant mountaintops. This great blessing allows them to spend a third of each year in an elevated perch with Nature’s indescribable grandeur stretching out in all directions -- a daily diet of magnificence.  Weathering lightning storms and high winds, daily walks over rough, steep terrain, and carrying all provisions up long flights of stairs to their towers have ensured that  the two remain resilient, sturdy, and grounded.  This has served them well!

After several years of this simple, quiet life pattern -- a time of literally chopping wood and carrying water -- an email from their dear friend Kiara Windrider propelled Barry and Karen back out into the wider world.  Kiara wrote of an ashram in India where people -- including his wife, Grace -- were getting enlightened.  A man called Bhagavan described  enlightenment not as a spiritual phenomenon, but rather as a neurobiological event -- something that happened in the brain. Off they went to India to find out more.      In 2005 Karen and Barry became deeksha-givers, and they led two seven-month programs to share the blessing of the deeksha within an ongoing energetic container they felt would best support the overall journey of awakening. They have also offered many evening and day-long events to transmit their approach to awakening, which includes supporting people in developing the capacity to hold space for one another to be with whatever arises along the way.     Throughout this time, the two hoped that the deeksha would spontaneously spread, but this did not occur. In answer to their requests for transmissions that could be passed on in an ever-widening sphere of awakening, Ilahinoor came in, through Kiara, and then other Transmissions of Grace.  For more about their post-deeksha experiences, read Barry’s and Karen’s descriptions of their journey with and beyond the Oneness Movement.     As Barry and Karen began to share the new transmissions, they were simultaneously led back to their original core purpose -- facilitating experiences of the True, Eternal Self, and supporting people in living from their core essence.  This is part of the larger evolutionary process of Birthing the Luminous Self.  They now view the transmissions as very useful assists in this process, and continue to offer in-person groups and teleconferences -- some focused on a particular energy transfer, and others to deepen awareness and experience of the True Self.
